Elon Description

For this you need an angel food loaf style cake, or make an angel food loaf cake from scratch.

Slice the chilled loaf cake into 1 inch thick horizontal "layers" just like the layers of a layer cake. Be gentle, a long serrated bread knife makes this easier. If it helps, measure and score the sides of the cake to help slice it in even layers.

Wash and slice some of the strawberries into several fans. Also slice about 2 cups of strawberry slices.

Have 2 large tubs of whipped topping. (like Cool Whip). Fill one piping bag with whipped topping. Use any tip you like for cake decorating. The other tub of whipped topping will be spread between the layers and frosted over the outsides of the cake after it's assembled.

On a platter or cake plate a bit larger than the angel food cake, smear a spoonful of whipped topping in the center and lay the bottom slice of cake on that, lightly press it to the plate, but not hard. The whipped topping underneath that layer slice will help anchor the cake to the plate so it won't move around.

Spread a 1/4 inch layer of whipped topping over the bottom slice of angel food cake. Place strawberry slices over the whipped topping and press them into the whipped topping slightly.

Settle the next cake layer evenly on top of the bottom one, and repeat the steps with whipped topping and strawberry slices between each cake layer.

The last angel food cake slice goes on top now, but don't put on the strawberry slices yet. They go on later.

Chill the cake for 2 hours before applying whipped topping to the outsides. On warm days it might be a good idea to plan on chilling the cake frequently.

It also helps to quickly chill the cake in the freezer if pressed for time.

Now spread whipped topping all over the assembled cake sides and top. Make it between 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick. Smooth it out flat, and hide the cake under whipped topping. Chill again.

Now use the piping bag to decorate the cake artistically with whipped topping. I usually decorate the corners and edges, you can make yours as pretty or plain as you desire.

Use the strawberry fans to make more designs on the top, corners and sides. Place remaining strawberry slices across the top in a pretty design. Cover and chill about 2 hours or overnight.

Serve ice cold (or frozen). I barely got to have any of this when I made it because my husband would devour it, he loved it that much! So did I but.. oh well, lol.
